[Info] New Around Here? Answers and Overviews

Help?

Welcome to the RPG Nexxus, an RPG news service and online community created and maintained by Effie Rover, Inc. This collection of sites is comprised of at least six (soon to be more like ten) sites, each of which focuses on a different aspect of RPGs.

~ RPG & General Gaming News ~

For news and recent events, you can always go to the home page of RPGHerald, which lists all new articles, stories, and posts that are of any value. Soraya is our chief editor here (great job she's doing, too!). Stories are listed in reverse order -- that is, newest first.

You can page through the content until you reach something you've already seen, or you can filter to a specific area of interest by clicking on the category links. You'll find those, in grey and right-aligned, under each article of interest. Most articles are posted in a publication category (Insider news, Gamer news, Features, etc), some in a system (D&D, MMORPGs, etc) and sometimes in a genre (Fantasy, Sci-fi, etc). Click on any category to filter the news down to just those you'd like to see.

~ RPG Feature Stories ~

Feature stories are articles by our illustrious editors and esteemed visitors (that means you!). We have a selection of articles on women gamers, playing a better game, creating characters and so on. Besides general soapbox commentary on the gaming industry, the aim here is to improve your roleplaying style - be it online or off, player or GM. To learn more or talk about your game and how to improve it, try RPG Hearth.

~ Interactive Writing & Plot Hooks ~

If writing (or reading) is your gig, try RPG Tales for our Interactive Writing community. We have slots for everything from interactive novels to ballads, poems and microfiction. Read through for your own enjoyment, post your own material, or just skim ideas for your upcoming campaign (shame on you! Oh, wait, I've done that ... okay, go ahead).

You can also find our fabulously talented editor, Eisel, in the writer's forums. She'll be helping you with feature articles, offering critiques, and answering general questions. By all means, introduce yourself at the Overstuffed Couch or ask your writer's question at the Writer's Work Table.

~ RPG Stuff ~

RPG Complete has always been our listing of RPG stuff (games, dice, movies, posters, books, whatever) with pertinent info like publication date, authors, and miscellaneous info. You can browse around or search for something specific as soon as we get it whacked into shape. We're currently rebuilding it, but you can take a look at what we've got so far.

~ RPG Links & Website Advice ~

Our flagship site, RPG Gateway, is not yet on the Nexxus system, but we'll get it there soon! You can find just about any RPG info you're looking for over there, with 4,000+ tested and rated RPG sites, categorized for your browsing pleasure. Or, search by keyword to find it quickly!

And if you're an RPG webmaster yourself, you can check out the Reviews & Advice pages for a free consultation and review of your RPG site. We'll even answer questions like how to get more traffic to your PbP game. If you're into the technical nitty-gritty, we talk about those issues, too -- which host to use, what program works best and how to configure phpBB for the best PbP game. You'll find us at the Web Tech forum.

~ The Forums ~

You can always find the forums from several links. First is RPG Crossings, which displays all forums from all sites. If you prefer the big picture, start there for your daily dose of online talk. Or, you can find all forums from the 'more' link in the 'Active Forum Topics' block on the left.

Welcome and we're happy to have your input! Check out the Forum Rules before posting. It'll take you about 30 seconds.

Registration

Before you go too much further, you'll probably want an account. They're cost-free and spam-free, so what's the harm? With a registered account, you gain the ability to post comments, start and reply to forum threads and even contribute to our quote pool. You'll also get points for each post you make, which may someday earn RPG prizes.

Anyway, to register, hie yourself over to the signup page and fill in the pertinent details. A password will be emailed to you, so make sure you get your address right. Your Nexxus login works at all these sites and you'll usually be remembered (just click on any link to see that you are, in fact, logged in).

Getting Help

If you have any questions, by all means post in the Help forums and we'll be right over.
