Introduce yourself...

Overstuffed Couch

Well, my full bio is in my profile, but I'm the infamous Effie. Good or bad depending on who you heard it from (Hmmm, I think that was a grammar error).

Anyway, I'm a web designer by trade; I worked for years in the industry through the dot-boom and subsequent -bust. Now I use what I've learned to run my own shop of two and we're much happier for it.

I started online D&D tools in 1995, and they just keep growing. Every time I think I have a neat site ready to go, some new project catches my eye. The Nexxus is my attempt to keep up with all of that -- by putting all that information and all that code in one place where we can build on what we already have to come up with new stuff.

So far it works Regular Smiley

Nothing is sacred to me, so I'm always interested in opinions. Shout in the forums about how you like or don't like the sites -- I'm listening.

By Soraya Tue, 01/10/2006 - 9:16pm.

I'm Soraya. I've been gaming for decades. The past 7 years I've been more active in various genres and currently have a character in a DnD adventure and have run a Dragonriders of Pern PBeM game for over five years now. That's a long time for a Pern game, in case you didn't know.

I'm a writer by trade and by avocation and have published and written lots of things in a zillion different genres and areas... including venture capital docuemtns that helped various companies raise millions of dollars.

I have show dogs, a classic Datsun 240Z sports car whose current paint job is affectionately known as rust and primer around the neighborhood (but it's faster than anything anyone else has!) and a job in marketing that I usually love.

I'm looking forward to learning more about everyone else too!

Been gaming long enough to remember when TSR was starting to get trashed from it's executive board. I've been gaming since 1980, right after I got my driver's lic. Yup... I'm old.

I've been a writer, painter, commercial illustrator, sign maker, CG modeler, programmer, game designer, architect, and now my favorite... Minister of Christ.

My favorite 10 ten games (Best to worst) are: GURPS 4th, Warmachine, GURPS 3rd, Mekton, GURPS 2nd, Fusion, GURPS: Man to Man (AKA 1st ed), D20 Modern, GURPS (Oly because it deserves repeating), almost everything else.

I'm Olan, t_catt11 if you want to use the handle, though almost no one does, and I'm from the good 'ol Deep South - Birmingham, Alabama, to be exact. I'm a network admin by day, web developer by night. I'm married and a father of two. Little league, ballet, and karate practices seem to dominate much of my time.

I'm a D&D gamer from the late eighties, and still play my own version of 2nd edition (AD&D). I'm also into trek gaming, star wars, sports, and far too much else. I'd love to be organized, but it takes so much effort!

I've been at the Gateway forever, and can remeber when I had one tiny little subcategory of D&D.

By Remmy Wed, 01/25/2006 - 8:58am.

Remmy isn't my real name but it's a moniker many people refer to me exclusively as.This fall I have plans to attend some college classes and perhaps get myself on some kind o' scholarship program. I'm destined to become a professional student, I think, that's mostly because there's a plethora of things that interest me and I would like to learn. Weather they be abstract topics or physical trades.

At any rate, I too have been kocking around the gateway forever, An inordinate amount of time (say since late '99 or early '00, don't do the math folks, it hurts). I've grown to rather enjoy the folks who also maintain the site and post on the forums and I wouldn't give this up for the world.

That's me, in an eggshell.

By Eisel Wed, 01/25/2006 - 12:16pm.

but better late than never, and all those cliches.

Like Remmy, I've been known as Eisel (one of my favorite all time characters)forever in RPG circles. ('course, I'm also known as the Grandma Gamer . . .)

I've been at the Gateway - sheesh, this is my 7th year. I don't tend too many categories any more; I just try to jump around and do whatever is needed, wherever. Herald and Tales are closest to my heart however.

Eh, in real life, I'm pretty much retired, but I'd really like to do some editing for game companies. To that end, I'm working as an editor at Roleplaying Tips, and doing a little freelance editing for indie game companies (where I get paid in product rather than coin, but it's good experience!)

Anyhow, I'm starting to love the new look and feel at Effie's sites. With a lot of hard work, they are going to be premier gaming sites. You will be able to find anything you need here eventually.

Now get out there and kill more monsters!

You may (or may not) remember me from the old RPGGateway forums as Angie. Why the change? Not just to confuse you. Regular Smiley A year ago I retired from Midnight Sun, the mud I worked on for 5 years, and joined another team, and the name change just somehow happened in the process. Angie has always felt a bit too cute for me anyway!

In real life, I work as a translator and book editor. My native language is Czech and I mostly work with English. I am 32, female, living in Prague.

I have been involved in mudding for some 7 years now and participate regularly in the main community forums (either as Angie or as Alayla, depending on when I created the accounts). Currently, I am part of the God Wars II team, designing and maintaining the web site and doing some odd building and design here and there.

I'm also a hobbyist painter, mostly hanging out at the Epilogue forums, although I am still far from having a gallery there. But I am working on it! For now, some results of my learning process can be seen in my Allavatars gallery.

It's good to be back, and kudos on the final look - after a bumpy start, the new forums look great.

Well I'm a complete newbie to these particular forums, but been a frequent visitor to RPG Gateway over the past few years. Been beating a path around the web for about the past 7-8 or so.

About me - well I'm Tommy. If any of you have frequented Vampire type forums - I'm most commonly known as TommyMalkavian. I am a gurl - or so I've been told - despite what the nickname might otherwise imply.

I've been playing D&D and AD&D since my older brother took me on my first adventure standing in our kitchen at about 12 yrs old. That's one of my best memories from childhood is those adventures he'd run me through, just him talking me through it and me reacting and trying to strategize my way around the pitfalls he created through pure imagination. Ahhh.. what fun.

By trade I'm an typesetter/ copy editor of a small newspaper - by passion and pleasure I'm an avid gamer and a writer. I don't want to even try to make a living at writing, because that would steal most of my pleasure from it I'm afraid - so I have a fasincation and admiration for those that can do make a living doing just those sorts of jobs and numerous others that depend on others opinions for their livilihood. Also during my off hours I live in a small home in rural Missouri and raise three beautiful boys.

Since college - around 92 - my passion has been the World of Darkness and especially Vampire the Masquerade. I've been in an on-line game that is somewhat PBeM style (but not exactly) - for the past 7 yrs playing VtM and we're still going strong.

Think that's about enough about me - it was great reading about all of you and I look forward to getting to know you all better through the forums.

Rhionon, the on again off again screen name for a 26 year old stay at home mom to four insane rugrats.

Born and raised in southern Ontario, I got my start in gaming technically as a toddler according to my mother, as soon as I was old enough to roll dice rather than put them in my mouth ;P . My first character of any type was a female half orc fighter, happily rolled up and played when I was 5, I still have her character sheet and the mini my mom bought me for her too (does that just sound sad? or is it just me?)

Since then I have diversified a bit. Okay a lot...

Games I play, have played, or run include but are not strictly limited too:
AD&D, Battletech/Mecwarrior, Cyberpunk, Vampire, Werewolf, Changeling, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, RIFTS, Palladium Fantasy, Warhammer, the shortlived Dream Park, Elfquest, Call of Cthulu (the Chaosium version) and on and on...

I am also an avid pbp junkie, having been involved in one or another for some 9 years, currently not actively playing as I have been recruited by friends to help build one again (see my other post in the Tech Support questions for the status of that insanity)

My most recent addiction is an online MMORPG called ConquerOnline, probably because with four kids I can't afford WoW.

Have fun all,
Rhi

Well, let's see.... My name is Michael and I am addicted to roleplaying. :P I've been around the Gateway for a number of years now (ID#4604 is my site -- though it's a little outdated at this point....). A web developer / database administrator by trade. Also taking some college classes this fall on top of working full time. I've been working on a PbP-roleplaying centered CMS in my spare time for the last couple of years.

Started roleplaying back in late '98/early '99 on a play-by-post site that a friend and I put together and have been with it (off and on) for some time. Mostly I like to develop the content and build the worlds in which others roleplay. Sadly, time has become less and less over the past 2 years.

I recently registered on these forums and decided to take part after having visited the Gateway for so long. I guess I'm looking to get back in the circle of roleplaying folks.

Well, that's me in a very small nutshell. Regular Smiley *waves to everyone*

I run http://fantasyscifi.com and I'm looking forward to the revamp that's taking place there (big reopening takes place in about a month if all goes well). It is a site designed to help gamers find each other and will hopefully be a decent nexus once it's fixed Regular Smiley

I help out at http://fionamcintosh.com as well, working on which has served as a great springboard to contacting other writers and members of the publishing community. It also allowed me to get other writers together here in Adelaide in the form of Inkdwellers.

Woven Eternily Around Venturers Entering Risky Situations

By Zeta Thompson Fri, 01/19/2007 - 3:43am.

Hi, I'm Zeta and I am a gamer.

I guess I started way back, but D&D in college was the first sign of my addiction.
Then came the internet and door games. I liked the strategy games because you can't really roleplay when there is only one on at atime can you now, except in the messageboards. and in Echomail, Good old Fidonet

And then I discovered Muds.

But real life got in the way. I went back to gaming on standalone games on the PC. The occassional get together of the old D&D parties
and on the rare occasion a strategy game.

But try as I might, the old ways called to me. I missed the days of you are in a 20 foot passage and the thief in your party has his hand in your pocket. There was a void in my life seeming unable to be filled.

One day when searching for something on the internet I came across a MUD homepage. Wow, text-based Muds are still around? Let me visit just this one for oldtimes sake.

Five years later I am still there, and on a few others. And in RPG forums. And you know what? I am glad to be back. So glad that my spouse and myself have reopened our dungeons for our now teenage daughter. Poor thing she still hasn't figured out how to handle my beholders.

*The pressure to write something witty and intellectual is crushing. I now realise why I like PBEM RPG’s as I can sit and draft and redraft for hours. Gosh now I sound neurotic!*

Hi, I’m Seasons * waves*, I have been writing for 5 years in RPG PBEM games. Currently I run a game with my partner, under the strict supervision of our cat.

Gaming has been a strange experience for me. Firstly, I didn’t realise how far my imagination could be stretched and secondly, is the reaction I get from people when I tell them my hobby.

Recently I went to a party (it was dying a slow and painful death) when one if my friends (who has a tendency to try and show me up) started saying how geeky I was. This completely backfired on her, as I became the most popular person there. As it turned out, it was a party of gamers (of all varieties) and once we all relaxed in our mutual strangeness, the party turned in to something to remember.

Anyway ‘Hi’

By Scot-Newbury Thu, 04/12/2007 - 7:53pm.

Wow, as soon I started this post I drew a blank, but not wanting to experience that again I'll push forward. Please excuse the ramblings. Regular Grin

From the previous postings it seems like everyone is including their past gaming experience which for me goes back 20+ years (lost track somewhere in there, my memory must be slipping) back in the days when D&D was just D&D and elves were both a race and a class.

However my gaming experience (on both sides of the screen) has seen many systems which include (and I will most likely miss a few): D&D (old school as well as 1st, 2nd, Skills & Powers, 3rd and 3.5), d20 Modern (w/Future), Call of Cthulhu (Chaosium and d20), Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Star Trek, Star Wars (non-d20), Top Secret, and Star Frontiers.

I'm currently a player in a 3.5E D&D game playing a Duskblade and enjoying myself. It's my first D&D character in about 6 years. I had been running my own home-grown 3.5E campaign with some player time in d20 Future.

I also have my own gaming blog of Dice and Dragons and at one point helped out editing Johnn Four's Role-playing Tips Weekly.

Outside of gaming I'm currently a Training Course Developer with a small company, been married for almost 14 years and have three charming children (when they're asleep) ages 7, 5 & 5 - yes twins.

So, hello to all and looking forward to swapping ideas with everyone.

I'm 19, live in Southern France and play on six French PbPs (two about ninjas, two about werewolves, one about mutants and the last one about magic). I've been playing for about 2 years, enough for my friends to say I'm addicted...

I also study English literature, language and civilisation at the Uni of Toulouse (I have no idea what I'm doing that for). Since I'm just a student and my mother tongue is French, I may write weird things without noticing, so please don't mind it (or tell me what's wrong ^^; ).

Hello there. I just found this amazing site and all its fun resources, and can't believe I hadn't stumbled upon it yet. Perhaps it's that I'm not so Internet-savvy - my gaming history began some 13 years ago, at the ripe old age of 10, and has primarily constituted pen-and-paper and live-action games. About a year and a half ago I discovered the wonderful world of play-by-post, which fed an ever-growng urge to write fiction while feeding that need for a game - a perfect fit for me.

In the real world, I ply my trade as a teacher and struggle ever onward towards a masters in philosophy. (Useful has never been my strong suit, y'see.)

Anyway, that's me. I'm off to gallivant through the site now - so much to explore! Thanks to Effie and all the others who put this together and keep it running.

Hey guys, I'm Helena, I've been rping for a few months now, mainly firefly-serenity stuff. It's a great site, FindingSerenity.org. But i recently got a craving for a bit of espionage Rping so i decided to create my own site. It's still in the making but three of us are workign really hard to get it done right now. I'll let you all know when it's done. If you have any questions please ask me about the site. And if your interested let me know. I need to recruit a lot of people.

I'm the Tina above. Been a while since I dropped by and I have forgotten my password and obviously lost the email account I originally signed up with - sorry about that.

I'm still interested in helping out Effie - but I've been blessed with my first pregnancy and due to give birth in 8 weeks, so perhaps next year once things settle down into a routine.

Well. I'm new to RPG. My brother recommended this place as a good place to begin and learn. I know a little about coding and I've got some friends that are real heavy RPGers. I've been writing since before I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia; most of my earlier works might as well be sanskrit. I enjoy fantasy most and have always had my heads in the clouds (for better or worse).

I have one cat, my little sister has one cat, and my mother has one cat; my mother's cat is not all that old but he has the disposition of a grumpy grandpa. I've had many dogs (mostly muts and aussies), Blue is my first cat and I find that -- unlike my dogs -- cats prefer to be the owners. I've traveled a lot in my short lifetime and will -- gods willing -- be doing some more of it quite soon.

I'm always willing to learn new things but I'm usually a bit slow.

Greetings, been gaming since about 1983. I owe RPG Gateway just about all the sites I have played. The directory has pointed me to the best (and worst) in gaming. After some time you just want your own place. So after years of gaming onlne finally created my own website 'The Nine Worlds' and it is starting to pick up.

Best,
Oskar

Hey everybody, I'm new to the whole RPing thing; I started about a year and a half ago, RPing at a Gantz RP site. Eventually, I was elected to be one of the new admins as we decided what to do with the site. The site was about to die, but thanks to a friend of mine (gMr/ronnie on the site), we were able to keep the site alive. I was doing a search for Gantz RP's and happened upon this site, and lo and behold, our site was already linked here! I was pleasantly surprised, and I have to say, I really dig this entire site. Currently, our site is undergoing a bit of maintainence; I'm developing a new RP system and I'm going to be testing it out in a new project. If any of you are interested, I suggest you check out the site @

http://gantzrp.proboards58.com/ It's already linked here, so if you like what you see, please go back and 5 star it! IIRC, it's got 5 stars from all voters who've checked it out already, but if you check back in a couple months, I think you'll be blown away by the changes I'm going to make in my room. I have some really big plans to bring Gantz to an American setting, and I think it's going to work out really well! I invite you to join up and see what we've been doing up until now; I would reccomend reading through the "Eastern" project ( http://gantzrp.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=project3 ), because although the moderator is currently indisposed due to internet issues, it is (in my opinion) the best RP I've ever been a part of to date. Thanks for your time!

Greetings all!

Well the great white north has been pounded with more snow then ever (ok close to the record!) and I just don't feel like going outside much so it has me on the computer more and more. I have used RPG Gateway for several years to find new places to enjoy writing and learn new things about online rpgs.

But now that I have really sat down, looked through the forums and site I am interested instead of purely playing PBP games but also reviewing them, and helping out with that section of the site! So hopefully you will see me around more unless my son learns to run around the block anytime soon... which is unlikely!

Cheers!
Derek
